I would give low star for Toyota of Berkeley Service at Shattuck Ave. location. They have a listed price online but the service center will over-charge you! I dropped off my three-year old car for a regular 30k service and the rep gave a much higher quote without inspecting the vehicle. I rejected all unnecessary replacement of parts. They gave a price quote when drop off and i assumed that is how much i will pay. When picked up the car, they changed 20% higher of the price by saying the manager adjusted the price etc. Never... read more
Wow, just wow. The car I wanted is in short supply in No. Cal. but Toyota of Berkeley appeared to have everything I wanted in the right color. My wife negotiated price and confirmed availability. All seemed good so I took a 2 hour train and UBER to Toyota of Berkeley to pick up my new car (first new car for me). When I arrived the salesperson and manager were standing next to the car talking. The salesman, Imad, asked if he could help and I let him know I was there to pick up that car (they only had one, so I knew that ... read more
They broke the hinge and left it on the floor. I've been to this service center before. They've driven me home and picked me up before, because the service would take a couple hours...but not today. Only after I drove away did I realize...they broke the hinge of the glove compartment. How do I know? BECAUSE THEY LEFT IT ON THE FLOOR. They didn't even bother to put it back.
Poor service...pricing was very inflated and 3 months later I had the same problem again. I think they also charged me for a repair on something that wasn't even broken.
Do not buy a car from this dealership. They sold us a used car that does not work and now they refuse to return our calls. We are out $15,000 and they do not care. Unless you like setting your money on fire, find another dealership. One that actually cares about its customers.
Beware of the service package upsells. They have 3 levels or "menus" of service items that they call Minimum, Value and Preferred. Minimum is all you need, it is the regular Toyota service schedule. The other two are totally unnecessary and effectively a way to rip you off for stuff you don't need. Here's how I know: I went in for a 45k service. The guy who met me started out saying there was no record of the 30k service. So I asked for him to include any items from the 30k that were not covered by the 45k and quote for tha... read more
Want to provide an update. Sold my car for $22.4k today. Versus Toyota Berkeley's offer of $17k (when I explicitly told them BEFORE I came in that I wouldn't take less than $21k; they told me to come in anyways since Toyota of Berkeley is "aggressive" and "competitive") Nobody beats Berkeley, what a joke. Again, if you're selling your car, avoid Toyota of Berkeley. If you are buying a car, get a Tesla or Polestar to avoid dealerships. If you can't avoid dealerships, get a Kia or Hyundai. Better warranty and cars. To... read more
Business response:
Hi: I am sorry that it did not work out for you with our dealership. Our business has been in business for over 50 years with the same ownership, and we pride ourselves on being good people with with ethical business practice. Just because we could not agree on a purchase price for your car, do not take to take it personal and be disrespectful towards others. Vehicle appraisals are subjective and based on overall condition. I hope you get want you want for your car. Tim Southwick Jr
I hate to write this review because my service advisor, Su, was nice, communicative, and professional (so the extra star is for him). However, the actual service on my car was regretfully abysmal. In sum, my experience with Toyota of Berkeley was time-consuming, excessively expensive, and frustrating. I came in because I was having an issue with my car where the window would pop out of the door. Toyota of Berkeley replaced my window, but did not fix the issue where it would not pop out, so it happened again a few days later... read more
Came in for my 5,000 mile service after paying thousands of dollars for the apparently useless Toyota+ program. They took hours, never contacted me when finished, and didn't actually do anything. When I picked up my car after the "service," the maintenance warning was still active and my washer fluid reservoir was empty. I'd get better service at Jiffy Lube.
