i went to berkeley toyota today . no one greeted me, so i went to talk to the person behind the glass and desk. i told her i was interested in test driving a camry hybrid to see if that is the hybrid i want. said she was too busy to help me, but a salesperson would just help me if i could wait 15-20 minutes. i sat down and waited for 40 minutes no one came, infact, no one was in the lobby when i came thru there exiting the waiting area. so i left without talking to a human. i will be surprised if this dealership survives ... read more
Business response:
Hi Pat. My apologies. Due to Covid and staff shortages, we are unable at times to accommodate all of our guests in a timely manner. Regretfully, Tim Southwick.
I was quoted one price at check in. Upon completion, the final price was $2 higher. Why? For "SANCM Sanitary Supply Charge" What is this charge? "Disinfectant spray/wipes, steering wheel cover, seat and floor covers" Every other Toyota dealer I have been to has never charged me extra for what should be standard practices. I.e., not getting grease and dirt all over the interior of my car. Shame on you Toyota of Berkeley!
For context, I have been a long time customer of Berkeley Toyota service alternating between their Gold and White teams. But after taking my 2013 Prius for 60K service Aug 18, 2021, am taking my business elsewhere. My spouse brings in car and is quoted $1530. When I hear about the price I balked (normally I would bring in the car but I was tied up in meetings). I do a quick google search and the quote is way high ($200-600 total depending on what's needed). Timeline: 9:05 am Drop off car 9:27 am Spouse calls Toyota to... read more
A simple repair that should have been around $300 ended up with cost over $1200. Not happy at all, this was the only regular service shop for our car for 10 years. Toyotas are considered one of the most reliable cars, but customer who does not know about maintenance can end to being ripped off mercilessly. This is not how the business should operate. I am not coming back.
Had really bad service experiences for Toyota cars with warranty. They are just saying "we cannot find the issue you described". 1. Had my 14 scion FRS around 2018, and I found a leak at the timing belt cover. It is well known issue for 13-14 FRS so I took it to the Toyota Berkeley service, they were just repeating the same statement "I cannot find the issue, let it drive around 3 months and see what happens". After hearing this about three times from them my warranty was about to be expired, so I mentioned them "If you ar... read more
It's been incompetent from the first interaction. Love Toyotas try to find a good service elsewhere.
Business response:
Hi Paolo: I am sorry we did not exceed your expectations. Please contact me if you wish to discuss. We are always looking to improve our service. Thanks for your time. Tim Southwick Jr
The guys here profusely told me my coolant wasn't leaking, but it clearly was because I found out I had a leak later that week when the engine light turned on. They also overcharge the hell out of everything. $50 for a spare key?! *says in italian* Get outta here!! get this it was just a key--no knick knacks. The Toyota in my beach city, Huntington Beach (best city of all timeeee west coast best coast), only charges $20. Meditate on that. P.S.- I was definitely gas lit about not having a leak in my radiator because I check... read more

Hi Anne: I apologize that your experience was unsatisfactory. We strive to make sure we accurately diagnose vehicle condition and needs based on our findings. We are happy to reinspect the vehicle to confirm. Again, I apologize, and thank you for sharing your experience. Tim Southwick Jr
The service department is always trying to up-sell on diagnostics and reduce airs that are not needed. I went in for a $199 deal they were having and they tried to get me to do a $1500 package instead. I stuck to my planned deal and they still tried to charge me extra for something that was already included. Then they lost my keys and had to get them from another location. They could not explain why my keys went to another place. I finally got my keys and said goodbye to this place for good. Barely an apology for their disor... read more
The service department is rude and unprofessional. I was asking a question and when I said she did not answer my question by repeating the statement, she transferred me mid-sentence. I have been to two other Toyota Service departments and never been asked to pay a $215 fee to diagnose a warrantied issue. This dealership requires this fee and when questioned about it they ignored me and transferred me? What is the point of an extended warranty, not to mention this is a 2 year-old car? Sounds questionable to me. Do yourself... read more
